Trump Announces Ohio Sen. JD Vance as His 2024 Running Mate

MILWAUKEE – With an eye toward the future of the Republican Party, former President Trump has named 39-year-old Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate for the 2024 national ticket.

The announcement, made as the Republican National Convention kicks off in Wisconsin, positions Vance, a former venture capitalist and author of the bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” alongside Trump in the bid for the White House.

“After lengthy deliberation, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of Ohio,” Trump announced on Truth Social.

Vance, a key supporter of Trump in the Senate and former critic turned America First advocate, was among the top contenders, including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

Experts believe Vance’s selection will strengthen Trump’s appeal among working-class Democrats, especially in the Rust Belt. Raised in a working-class family in Ohio, Vance’s personal and professional journey, including his military service and successful Senate campaign, highlights his deep roots and commitment to the American worker.

The Trump-Vance ticket aims to solidify support within the GOP and appeal to voters across key battleground states as they gear up for the 2024 election.
